On Friday evening, Tunisian President Kais Saied received a phone call from Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the European Union.

A statement by the Tunisian presidency stated that Saied “demonstrated during this call the reasons that called him to take exceptional measures based on the text of the constitution and in accordance with the procedures it included.”

The Tunisian president referred to “the fallacies that a number of Tunisians are spreading about the status of rights and freedoms, while the chapter on freedoms in the constitution has not been touched, and the work of Parliament has been frozen, given that it has turned into a field of conflicts and blood has spilled on more than one occasion.” “.

Said explained that “the opponents who pay money to organize fake demonstrations were dealt with with great flexibility,” stressing that “the Tunisian state was on the verge of falling.”

Said stressed the existence of “a number of Tunisians who abuse their country from abroad and promote a false image of the state of freedoms.”

For his part, Borrell said that he will report these data at the next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union member states and to members of the European Parliament, according to the presidential statement.
