Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Besdać indicated that a fifth package of European Union sanctions against the Belarusian leadership is being discussed, against the background of the immigration situation at the border.
In an interview with the Polish radio station Wnet, he explained, in response to a question about the measures taken by Poland regarding the immigration situation at the Polish-Belarusian border, that “the fifth batch of sanctions is being discussed at the European level.” According to him, several packages of individual sanctions, one of which is economic, have been imposed so far.
“The United States recently imposed additional economic sanctions, which will come into force soon (November and December),” Beshadac noted. “I think that this will be very sensitive for the Lukashenko regime. In addition, of course, diplomatic pressure should be exercised, pressure from international organizations, which, in my opinion, should be activated first in the direction of Minsk,” he stressed.
