The Philippine government is considering suspending sending its workers to Saudi Arabia, in an attempt to press for the return of two Filipino workers who worked as domestic helpers for a former Saudi general.

“The Philippine Labor Office has submitted its recommendations to the Secretary of Labor, Sylvester Bello, with the aim of suspending sending Filipino workers to Saudi Arabia, if the latter does not deliver them two domestic help by September 30,” said Rolly Francia, head of the Department of Labor, Employment Information and Public Service.

She pointed out that “Bilo is still considering options and is asking foreign and local recruitment agencies to work together for the safe return of Filipino workers abroad,” stressing that “various government agencies are assisting the organization in negotiating with the former Saudi general, Ayed Al-Juaid, for the return of the workers.” “.

The “Philippine Star” website confirmed that Al-Juaid used 16 Filipina workers, accusing him of treating them “like slaves”, while there are still two female workers working for him.
