Russian nutritionist Dr. Yelena Kalin announced that hypothyroidism is one of the reasons for weight gain.
Kalin pointed out that hormonal disorders can become a cause of weight gain, and one of the reasons for these disorders is hypothyroidism.
According to her, hypothyroidism occurs, when the level of thyroid hormones decreases. Women are more susceptible to this disease, and it may sometimes occur after childbirth.
Symptoms of the disease include deterioration of cognitive function, poor condition of the skin and nails, increased swelling and sweating, joint and muscle pain, hair loss, insomnia, nausea, and irregular heartbeat.
The expert indicated that when these symptoms appear, an endocrinologist should be consulted. Reducing weight can be the first step in recovering from this disease, when the thyroid gland returns to work normally.
