The family of Palestinian prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi confirmed today, Sunday, that her son was subjected to continuous torture by the Israeli authorities, after Hebrew reports that he was transferred to a hospital for treatment.
Jibril Al-Zubaidi, brother of the prisoner Zakaria, said: “My brother Zakaria is now being subjected to the most extreme forms of torture. They torture him with electricity, and they broke his foot, and he does not know the meaning of sleep.”
In a post on his Facebook page, he added that his jailers “beat him on his broken leg, insult him, and interrogate him in a brutal and inhuman manner,” as he put it.
Jibril Al-Zubaidi did not explain how he obtained the information he mentioned about his brother Zakaria being tortured.
Al-Zubaidi is one of six Palestinian prisoners who managed to escape from the high-security Gilboa prison in northern Israel, at dawn last Monday, before the Israeli authorities re-arrested him, about 5 days after his escape.
And Israeli media reported, earlier on Sunday, that the prisoner Zakaria was transferred to a hospital in Haifa, after his health deteriorated.
The Hebrew “Kan” channel said that the prisoner, Zakaria al-Zubaidi, was transferred to Rambam Hospital in Haifa for treatment, after his health deteriorated.
Yesterday, Saturday, Israel presented the four prisoners, who were re-arrested, to the Magistrate’s Court in Nazareth. Pictures that were broadcasted to the prisoners showed that the prisoner Al-Zubaidi was beaten during his arrest.
On Saturday, the Israeli Magistrate’s Court in Nazareth indicted 5 charges for the four prisoners.
Investigations with the four prisoners revealed various details in the case of their escape, according to what was reported by Israeli media, today, Sunday.
The Hebrew Channel 12 reported that after the six prisoners escaped, contact was cut off between them, and they had no way of communicating with each other.
Investigations by the Prisons Authority and the Shin Bet also revealed that the six prisoners who escaped from Gilboa Prison did not receive any help from anyone, whether from inside or outside the prison.
