US manufacturing activity rebounded in September, but factory deliveries of raw materials experienced longer delays and pushed higher prices for inputs.

The Institute for Supply Management said Friday, October 1 that its index of the nation’s factory activity rose to a reading of 61.1 last month from 59.9 in August.

Any reading above the 50 level indicates growth in manufacturing activity, which represents 12% of the US economy.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected the index to fall to 59.6.
