The Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hanifat, announced that Lebanon decided to cancel the prior import license for Jordanian agricultural products.

And the Jordanian newspaper, Al-Dustour, reported that “the decision to cancel the prior import license comes within the framework of Jordan’s efforts to increase its agricultural exports.”

Al-Hanaifat explained in a statement that “in the framework of the ministry’s relentless endeavor to increase agricultural exports and establish trade relations with countries on the basis of mutual benefit and reciprocity in the exchange of agricultural products, we have worked to communicate with the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, where priority was given to importing bananas during the period of supplementary import.” From Lebanon, in return for importing vegetables from Jordan.

The Jordanian minister added that his ministry “instructed the Jordanian Vegetables and Fruits Exporters Syndicate to communicate with their Lebanese counterparts in order to export Jordanian agricultural products to Lebanon without prior licenses. The ministry also worked to facilitate the task of exporters related to dollar exchange rates.”

It is noteworthy that the middle of last week witnessed the conduct of the first trial consignment in order to complete the export process according to the mechanisms of reciprocity, according to Al-Hanaifat.
