The Emirates Tourism Council held its fourth meeting for the year 2021, headed by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, and the membership of the heads and general managers of local tourism authorities in the country.

The council reviewed tourism and hotel data for the third quarter of 2021, where hotel establishments from the beginning of this year until the end of the third quarter attracted about 13 million guests, who spent more than 52 million hotel nights, a growth of 24% compared to the same period in 2020, while the total revenues of hotel establishments amounted to about 16 billion dirhams, an increase of 40% compared to the same period last year. Hotel establishments continued to record an average occupancy rate of 62%, ahead of the top 10 tourist destinations in the world.

The Council discussed mechanisms for coordinating cooperation between member agencies at the federal and local levels to support tourism promotion efforts in the country, with a focus on domestic tourism campaigns in conjunction with the entry of the winter season, which is considered an active tourist attraction period in the country.

Suggestions and ideas

The Council, in coordination with the Media Office of the UAE Government, reviewed plans to launch the second round of the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” campaign, which was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and which is scheduled to be launched in December. 2021, and the council was briefed on the proposals and new ideas for the second round of the campaign, which aims to highlight the Emirati tourism identity and the various tourism events in the country, and to enhance the country’s position as a home for skilled people and pioneering projects and to attract investments in the tourism field.

Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi stressed the necessity of coordinating efforts between various government agencies and the private sector to make the second cycle of the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” successful, and to build on the achievements made in the first cycle to achieve new, more distinguished achievements, which will enhance the UAE’s position as a leading and sustainable tourism destination globally. It is worth noting that the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” campaign met with remarkable success in its first cycle, which ran from December 13, 2020 to January 25, 2021, and resulted in an increase in the number of hotel establishment guests by 17% compared to the same period in 2019, with a total of 950,000 hotel guests, and revenue for establishments. hotels in the country with a total value of one billion dirhams.

The council was also briefed on an action plan for cooperation and coordination between the concerned authorities to develop programs for developing foreign tourism and increasing the attraction of visitors from the markets exporting tourists, as well as reviewing initiatives and plans aimed at opening new markets that enhance the country’s position on the global tourism map.
