An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck the border region between Myanmar and India early Friday morning, the Indian National Center for Seismology said.

The quake was felt from the city of Chittagong in Bangladesh to Kolkata in eastern India, according to witness accounts posted on the website of the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center and user accounts on Twitter.

A witness from Chittagong described the quake on the website of the Euro-Mediterranean Center as “very strong”. Chittagong is about 184 km west of the epicenter.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center put the quake’s strength at 5.8, after earlier giving it six, and said the quake’s epicenter was about 126 km southeast of Aizol in northeastern India.
