Last night (Wednesday), Major Y. was appointed commander of the first fighter pilot squadron at the Air Force Flight School. She enlisted in the 165 pilot course in 2010 and completed it as a fighter pilot.

Earlier this week, the Committee for the Selection of Military Judges, headed by Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, selected Brigadier General Orly Markman as president of the Military Court of Appeals – making Markman the third woman in IDF history to become a major general. For the first time in history, two champions will serve in the IDF at the same time – Along with Markman, Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi is already serving as the Chief Military Advocate.
Markman, who currently serves as vice president of the Military Court of Appeals, has previously held a number of positions in the Military Courts Unit, including presiding over district military tribunals and the special tribunal. In her role she will replace Major General Doron Piles, who has served as president of the Military Court of Appeals for the past five years.
