19:00: Israel launches campaign against Poland

The Israeli basketball team is with us again. The blue-and-white team will open tonight (Thursday, live on SPORT5) its way into the World Cup qualifiers against Poland at Drive-In, which will also be Guy Goodes’ debut on the national lines.

“There is no doubt that the Poles have high chins and could very well try to play more inwards,” the new coach said just before the first fire baptism. “There’s a new coach there. It’s one game, the start of a campaign and we have a lot of motivation to win. Some come not in good shape, there will be 40 minutes of war on the floor.”

The two are well-known rivals and remember they met each other in the last Eurobasket qualifiers, when in both games Israel defeated the opponent from Poland. Anyway, this time the opposing team comes into the game with a rather lacking squad, with among the absentees one can find its most notable player in recent years, a retired Ponitka who has not been released from Zenit St. Petersburg and also the veteran AJ Slaughter.
