Spain: Inflation rises to the highest level since 1992

Data from the Spanish Statistics Office showed today that the inflation rate rose sharply during the current October to the highest level in nearly three decades, largely due to the rise in energy prices.
The consumer price index rose by 5.5% on an annual basis after rising by 4.0% last September. Economists had expected the inflation rate to rise by 4.5%.
The bureau said the inflation rate was the highest since September 1992.
The office indicated that car fuel prices affected inflation less than energy prices.
The core inflation rate, excluding the prices of food and energy products, rose to 1.4%, compared to 1.0% last September.
