Austrian chip maker AT&S predicted today that the global chip shortage will continue for another 12 months, until supplies increase and keep pace with real demand.
“We are currently in a very volatile environment, and it is completely destabilizing,” Andreas Gerstenmaier, CEO of the company, said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur. “The pandemic has led to a significant increase in demand for digital devices.”
He added that to meet the shortage, the company is working to add production capacity to the market, and has built a new factory in China.
“We are doing our best to increase capacity, and now with the investment in Malaysia, we will add another production capacity,” he said.
The company had announced that it intends to invest $2.1 billion in a production plant in Malaysia.
