Information Minister George Kordahi explained that his interview was broadcast on August 5 last, surprising “that those who defend freedom of media and speech are the ones who exaggerated matters and tried to suppress me.”
Qardahi said: “What I said in the interview does not obligate the government to anything. These are my personal opinions. After I became a minister, I am committed to the ministerial statement and government policy. I did not attack Saudi Arabia. This accusation is rejected, and I do not deny the favor.”
Regarding his demand to resign, Qardahi commented: “I did not sin against anyone to apologize, and my words may have embarrassed the presidents of the republic and the prime minister, and to those who asked me to resign, I tell them that I am now part of an integrated government and I cannot take the decision alone but with the government as a whole.” He added, “It is not permissible for us to remain in Lebanon subject to blackmail from anyone, not from countries, from ambassadors, or from individuals, and they dictate to us who should remain in the government and who should not stay in it, aren’t we a sovereign state?”
