Hollywood insiders reported that the assistant director who gave actor Alec Baldion the gun that killed director of photography Helena Hutchins while rehearsing a scene for “Rust” last week had been fired from a previous movie because of his involvement in a firearm incident.

A producer on the 2019 film Freedom’s Bath said assistant director David Hales had been laid off from his work on the film after a member of the cast was slightly injured “during the accidental operation of a weapon”.

The source pointed out that “Hals was expelled from the filming site immediately after the gunshot wound that came out of the accessory. The production team did not resume filming until after Dave left the scene.”

During the filming of the Western movie “Rust,” Dave Hales handed actor Alec Baldwin a supposedly unloaded weapon that the actor used to rehearse a scene. However, a gunshot accidentally exited, killing director of photography Helena Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

The website “The Wrap” that specializes in the field of entertainment, quoting sources familiar with the atmosphere of filming “Rust”, stated that the weapon that killed Halina Hutchins had been used a few hours before the crew members to aim at cans.

The strict rules in force in the cinema sector in this field prohibit the presence of any kind of live ammunition on the set, especially in order to avoid this type of accident.
