Warehouse421, Abu Dhabi’s arts and design destination focused on developing talent in the region, has announced the launch of projects and partnerships with national and international art institutions and academic institutions this winter, including Alserkal Art Foundation and New York University Abu Dhabi, as well as announcing the winners of the Warehouse421 Art Research Grant and Program for the Development of Technical evaluation experience.
Faisal Al Hassan, general manager of Warehouse 421, said: “As we reopen our doors, we look forward to holding exhibitions and projects that underline our commitment to supporting emerging talent from the UAE and the region. We are excited to see the creations of the six multidisciplinary artists who have been awarded the Art Research Grant. We also look forward to seeing our new partnerships bear fruit, as we believe in the impact of strong and effective partnerships on strengthening the creative ecosystem in the region.”
The grant targets topics that explore the intersections of axes of a social and cultural nature, as well as in public and public spaces, in languages and linguistics, in transportation and its mechanisms, in urbanization and its social and cultural structures, in the economy and displacement, in art institutions, and in ecosystems. The Art Research Grant also aims to support rigorous, in-depth art research methods across multiple disciplines, by focusing on the arts and encouraging more substantive engagement between creative practitioners and their communities across the region.
Warehouse421 collaborates with the Bombay Institute for Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR) to host and organize exhibitions and work with curators in the MENASA region through a program to develop artistic assessment expertise. It revolves around the idea of ”The Perfect Future: Catastrophe and the Contemporary Present”.

Warehouse421 also announced a research program scheduled to begin in November 2021, in collaboration with Alserkal Art Foundation, that explores frameworks for performance in the region and the hypothesis that language has the power to influence, as a form of social action.
It was also revealed that Warehouse 421 will establish a partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi to host two exhibitions for the first batch of Master of Fine Arts students at the university, the first with the students entering the program in May 2022 and the second on the occasion of their graduation in May 2023. Since Warehouse421 is a center for emerging artists, it stimulates Learning, Experimenting and Exhibiting, it will also support creative practitioners enrolled in the NYUAD Master of Fine Arts program who are at the beginning of their mid-career art to develop their projects, as well as strengthening this partnership of institutional relationships between Warehouse421 and NYUAD and avenues for future collaborations. .
