The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt, Mostafa Waziri, commented on what was reported about the discovery of a new “Abu Sphinx” in the Al-Ahram Plateau area.
And the Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities continued, during a telephone interview on the “Cairo Talk” program, on the “Cairo and the People” screen: “There is no new Sphinx, while the discovery is a rock in the area of the Al-Ahram Plateau, and talking about the discovery of a new Sphinx is inaccurate.”
Waziri added that archaeological discoveries have a certain system in announcing them, and the rock in question today is not a new discovery, explaining that the author of the talk about the new Sphinx works as an inspector at the Ministry of Antiquities, and there are a large number of archaeological rocks in Egypt, including entire areas such as the rock of the pyramids plateau. The Mokattam Rock, and the Badr Al-Din Al-Jamali Mosque was built on a huge rock and many other rocks.
The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities indicated that it is not yet clear whether the rock in question is a rock or a statue, because excavations are underway around it and its landmarks have not yet been discovered, stressing at the same time that the ministry has already completed the construction of the Great Museum and is now being completed. He placed the artifacts inside the display, explaining that the opening of the grand museum will be in the second half of next year 2022.
