The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, said that the celebration of the United Nations’ 76th anniversary is an important day for all, noting that it is important for 100 million Egyptians and more than 100 member states of the international organization.
She added, during an interview with the “A Final Word” program, presented by the media, Lamis Al-Hadidi on the “ON” channel, on Sunday evening, that Egypt is one of the founders of the United Nations, saying that the Egyptian delegation, headed by journalist writer Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, signed the founding document of the United Nations in San Francisco. 1945 year.
She pointed out that the Egyptian delegation contributed to the preamble of the founding charter of the United Nations, sending a message to the citizens: “You should feel proud as Egyptians because Egypt founded the organization.”
In another context, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt noted that the Corona pandemic revealed inequality and lack of justice in the distribution of vaccines, pointing out that the vaccination rate in some countries did not reach 5%.
She stated that some developed countries gave 90% of their people vaccinations and started giving the vaccine to children, stressing that the United Nations tried to set a framework for action more justly, in light of the inequality that clearly appeared in the crisis.
She pointed out that the United Nations tried to provide a more just response to the pandemic through the global facility “Cofax”, which aims mainly to distribute vaccines fairly between developing and developed countries, stressing that Egypt has largely supported the coalition.
