A spokesman for the Taliban announced that the movement will not participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighbors, which will be held next Wednesday in the Iranian capital, Tehran, without explaining the reasons for the absence of a Taliban representative at the conference.

The Deputy Minister of Information and Culture in the Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid, said today, Sunday, that the Taliban representative will not attend the meeting, according to the Afghan “Tolo” network.

The Russian Sputnik news agency also reported that representatives of the Taliban movement, which came to power in Afghanistan, will not attend the next meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries.

And Afghan television quoted Mujahid as saying, “None of the representatives of the government of Afghanistan will attend the meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries,” but at the same time, he described the planned ministerial meeting in Tehran as “good.”

On October 18, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that six countries, namely Iran, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, will participate in an in attendance meeting at the level of foreign ministers in Tehran, and the participating parties intend to focus their efforts on how to help form an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the participation of all Ethnic groups, and the first session was held on the eighth of last September via the Internet.

According to Tolo TV, the second meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbors will be held next Wednesday in Tehran, and the topic of this meeting is the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan and the establishment of peace and stability in the country.

No invitation to the Taliban

However, Fars News Agency announced that the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will be in attendance, noting that the Chinese foreign minister will attend the meeting by default. It is not yet clear at what level Russia will participate in the meeting.

The Iranian news agency said that “the Taliban were not invited to attend the meeting” but did not say why the Taliban had not been invited.

At the first meeting of foreign ministers of the six countries neighboring Afghanistan, which was held on September 8 under the chairmanship of Pakistan, it was agreed to hold the next round of meeting in Tehran, and in his speech at the meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced his country’s readiness to “provide all possibilities” to move the intra-Afghan talks forward.
