The Afghan “Taliban” movement offered thousands of citizens to work in exchange for wheat, as part of a program to combat hunger and unemployment.

The movement’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said in a press conference south of Kabul today, Sunday, that the program will include the main towns and cities in Afghanistan and will benefit 40,000 men in the capital only.

Mujahid added that this is an important step to combat unemployment, stressing that workers must “work hard.”

The program targets the unemployed and most at risk of starvation during the winter, and includes jobs in digging water channels and snow water harvesting facilities.

The program will last for two months and aims to distribute 11.6 thousand tons of wheat in the capital, and about 55 thousand tons in other parts of the country, including Herat, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Pul-e-Khumri.
