The Nigerian Football Association submitted an official complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) due to the poor reception the National Guard team received since its arrival at Cairo Airport.

And the Niger Football Association published an official statement, announcing that a complaint had been submitted to the African Confederation against the Egyptian side because of the poor reception.

The statement also revealed the National Guard team’s request to postpone the match with Al-Ahly for 24 hours, against the background of the intentional circumstances that the team was exposed to, as they described it, and with the complicity between Al-Ahly officials and the airport authorities.

The statement, which was published on their official Facebook page, read as follows:

The Nigerian Football Association was notified last night of unusual behavior from the Egyptian side, represented in the poor reception of the delegation of the National Guard team during their arrival in Cairo.

We sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), containing details of what happened with the mission, as the Egyptians demanded vaccination records, before they confined the members of the mission and their rooms.

Indeed, as soon as the team arrived at Cairo airport at 12:00 am, Al-Ahly officials, in connivance with the airport authorities, came to receive them in ambulances to take them to the hospital and quarantine them on the pretext that they did not have a vaccination record, without any respect for the “sufficient” protocol of the Confederation of African Football.

After 9 hours of waiting and meetings, our team was finally able to leave the airport to reach their hotel.

These attempts are aimed at undermining the morale of the team, and exhausting our players both physically and mentally.

Therefore, in front of this inhuman and non-sportsmanlike situation, which contradicts the positive values of “K”, and contradicts the norms of hospitality and fraternity with which we received the Egyptian delegation during its stay in Niger, we need to postpone the match for 24 hours, and to take place on Sunday, 24 October instead of the predetermined Saturday 23 October.

We are waiting for the most urgent and appropriate measures to be taken to punish those responsible for this unspeakable behavior.

By the way, we must thank our diplomatic representation in Cairo, who spared no effort to provide aid and assistance to our ambassadors in this destabilizing attempt that was organized against the National Guard team.

Good luck to our representatives.

For its part, the National Guard Club published pictures of the team’s mission while sleeping on the ground at Cairo Airport.

Al-Ahly is preparing to face the National Guard tomorrow evening, Saturday, in the second leg of the 32nd round of the African Champions League.

Al-Ahly had tied the first leg in Niger with a goal for each team, as the representative of Egypt needs to win any result, or a negative tie in order to reach the group stage.
