Day-to-day workers at the Electricité du Liban (EDL) affiliated with the Tricom company carried out a protest sit-in in the courtyard of the Jiyeh thermal plant this morning, in protest against the deteriorating economic and social conditions, calling on the decision-makers in the Electricité du Liban to adjust their salaries under these difficult circumstances, as what is happening is not acceptable. The issue is one of children, not just of workers.”

Union worker Ahmed Al-Rawas read out the statement of the daily-workers, and said: “The management of the Electricité du Liban Corporation must listen to the legitimate and rightful demands of the daily-workers, especially since we have been doing our best to serve this institution for more than twenty-five years, and during these long years we have made all the sacrifices due to the lack of The installation, in addition to the constant suffering, in return for a small and simple daily allowance has become not enough for us in our livelihood, and its purchasing value has recently declined due to the high prices of fuel and basic materials against the exchange of the dollar, which exceeded twenty thousand pounds, and the daily workers are now unable even to buy a bundle of bread, Because the daily wage of the worker with the transportation allowance is 48000 Lebanese pounds, not even the transportation allowance, in light of the high price of fuel.”

He added: “We hope that the stakeholders in the Electricity Corporation will find a quick solution that does justice to all the daily workers in the corporation through a new conditions book to tender the labor supportive of the corporation against demand, and take into account the economic conditions that the country is going through after the decrease in the purchasing value of the Lebanese pound, and thus the ability of the daily-workers to decline. to secure their livelihood needs.

He concluded: “Because it is the poor day laborer who pays the price, stop procrastinating on the most basic rights of daily workers. We have children who we must guarantee their most basic rights to a decent life.”
