Using highly advanced tools to get a history of calls and messages

Today, Tuesday, technical reports said that a group of hackers infiltrated telephone networks in various regions of the world, through special and highly sophisticated tools, in order to obtain a history of calls and messages.

According to the British “Sky News” network, an American company specializing in cyber security was the one who revealed this breach, which was described as dangerous.

The company “CrowdStrike” explained that the group of hackers called “LightBasin” has been active since 2016, but its activity has been noticed more recently, while it was using tools that are among the most advanced in the cyber field so far.

The US report stated that the techniques that were used allow hackers to spy on any phone linked to the targeted networks.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the hacker network accused of this infiltration is linked to China, similar to many cyber attacks that were said to have been carried out with the blessing of countries such as Russia and Iran.

Adam Myers, deputy director of the American company, said that “CrowdStrike” obtained the information, while it was responding to incidents in a number of countries.

The senior official in the American cyber security company refused to reveal the countries in which these cyber attacks were monitored.

On Monday, the company released technical details of the widespread attack in an effort to enable other companies to conduct similar checks.

Myers noted that these attacks were conducted in such a subtle and skillful manner that they did not attract any attention, nor arouse any suspicion from those around them.

Myers explained that his company is not accusing the Chinese government of directing the attacks by the hacker group, but what has emerged so far is that the operation is related to this Asian country due to the presence of encryption associated with the Chinese language.

The spokesman stated that the company had detected technologies that were previously used in attacks that the Chinese government was said to be behind.

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said it was aware of the report and said it would continue to work closely with US companies.

“This report reflects the cybersecurity risks facing organizations, small and large, and underscores the need for concrete action,” the agency added through a spokesperson.
