There’s no denying the popularity of Apple’s AirPods, but the regular model is too late for an update. Announced in the spring of 2019, the company’s second generation of true wireless earbuds brings improvements like faster pairing, hands-free Siri, and wireless charging. While some companies roll out multiple models each year, Apple didn’t need to do that, hence the two-year gap between new models. Today, the company finally launched its third-generation AirPods with an updated design, spatial sound, adaptive equalizer, and one-touch setup.
Apple says the latest AirPods are safe for workouts thanks to IPX4 sweat and water resistance. Siri is back without
The use of hands, while the skin sensor detects that you are wearing the earbuds, and automatically pauses when you remove one. As for battery life, you can expect up to six hours of listening and 30 hours of total use with the charging case. Speaking of the case, it supports MagSafe charging. Plus, a new one-touch setting quickly pairs the earphones with Apple products.

With the third generation of AirPods, Apple is introducing spatial audio with dynamic head tracking to its regular model. Head tracking also works with calls
Group FaceTime so that sounds appear to be coming from the direction they were placed on the screen. Apple says this makes the setup more immersive, so it feels like you’re in the same room with other attendees. The company claims that support for the AAC-ELD codec enables improved speech quality and says its microphones are covered with “acoustic mesh” to help reduce wind noise.
Apple has also equipped its new AirPods with Adaptive EQ. This technology adjusts the sound in real time according to the internal microphones that monitor the sound. Arithmetic audio adjusts the low and mid-range frequencies when any differences occur. This works like Adaptive EQ on AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, so Apple is expanding a lot of tech-heavy features from its more expensive models to more basic AirPods.
The third-generation AirPods are available for pre-order today for $179 and will begin shipping on October 26.
