The Khalifa University of Science and Technology inaugurated yesterday the International Conference for the Development of Nuclear Power Plants 2021 in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of a number of global nuclear energy leaders who praised the UAE’s step in building the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, which is considered the first project specialized in nuclear energy in the UAE and the region.
The conference was attended by Ambassador Hamad Al Kaabi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President at Khalifa University, and Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, CEO of the Emirates Energy Corporation, as well as delegates from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, industry experts, partners and leaders. world in the field of nuclear energy.
The International Conference on the Development of Nuclear Power Plants 2021, which was co-sponsored by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation and the American, French, Korean and Japanese nuclear energy institutions, aims to provide a forum for nuclear energy leaders that allows them to exchange information, present research results, assess the status of the industrial sector and discuss trends. The future and the need for expansion of modern nuclear power plant systems around the world.
Dr. Aref Al Hammadi said: “The university is proud of organizing the conference in cooperation with partners and emphasizing the country’s success by establishing and operating the first nuclear power plant of its kind in the region.”
Mohammed Al Hammadi said: “Nuclear energy is a major contributor to achieving sustainable development without carbon emissions, and is a fundamental pillar of the energy mix in the UAE in the long term and will remain so for decades to come. The UAE Peaceful Nuclear Program is an important evidence of the possibility of completing energy projects nuclear and operating them safely and in a cost-effective manner. Today, nuclear and renewable energy work together to produce environmentally friendly electricity in the UAE with the commercial operation of the first Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, which has become the largest single source of electricity in the Arab world.
During the conference, Sama Bilbao-e Leon, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, gave the first speech at the conference under the title “New Developments: A Legacy That Lasts”.
Nasser Al-Nasiri, CEO of Barakah Al-Oula Company, presented his speech at the conference, which focused on the successful financing of the establishment of new nuclear energy projects.
