The Emirates Health Services Corporation launched the “Thiqa” program to support health care providers affected by the occurrence of an unexpected serious medical event for the patient. The institution has approved a central committee to follow up and implement the program, taking into account supporting the culture of patient safety as an essential part of implementing the program, by setting policies, procedures and supporting instructions, and setting up a training program for program coordinators in hospitals, in conjunction with identifying resources and tools to support caregivers when a grave event occurs to the patient, Raising awareness about the concept of the second victim, and working with all stakeholders to support and develop the program.
The Director General of the Emirates Foundation for Health Services, Dr. Youssef Mohammed Al Serkal, confirmed that the goal of the “Thiqa” program is to take care of the mental health of health staff, provide supportive programs and train them in stress management, adaptation and supportive communication, noting that maintaining their mental health is a priority of the Foundation in appreciation of the exceptional efforts that They present them, and embody the leadership’s directives regarding the importance and role of the first line of defense and their sacrifices in protecting the health of the UAE society.
