The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is participating in the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, affiliated with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, in the 73rd edition of the Frankfurt International Book Fair 2021, which will be held between 20 and 24 October under the slogan “Re-Meet”.

The award participates in a special platform within the pavilion of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center participating in the exhibition, to present an agenda full of qualitative cultural activities, which includes organizing three dialogue sessions, covering a range of the most prominent topics, which enrich the discussions of the exhibition, and attract the attention of its visitors, authors and publishers alike. These discussions will be broadcast live in English in the Frankfurt studio, and will be shown in Arabic after the award’s channel on YouTube, to ensure that it reaches the largest number of audiences around the world.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Secretary-General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award and President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, said: “The Sheikh Zayed Book Award has a long history of participation in the Frankfurt International Book Fair; Which is considered one of the most important world events in literature and publishing. Our participation in this global event is very important to us; As it constitutes an ideal platform to achieve our mission of enhancing the status of Arabic language and literature at the world level; Especially since it brings together a group of senior authors, publishers and influential personalities from the literary world with readers under one umbrella, especially since the relationship between the Arab and German cultures is deeply rooted, and we are witnessing today, through what the world’s leading knowledge platforms provide, more convergence between Arabic and German literature The award is largely in line with the award’s main mission of promoting cultural exchange and celebrating authors from all over the world who write about Arab culture and civilization in their own languages.”

Empower Publishers

The first session of the award will be held under the title: “Arabic Literature No Limits to Creativity,” and it is held in cooperation with Publishing Perspectives, the leading American magazine in the global book publishing sector and affiliated with the Frankfurt Book Fair. The session examines the reasons that prevent the translation of the works of many great Arab writers and their access to the world, and focuses on the mechanisms of enabling publishers to identify the most prominent works of classical and modern Arabic literature, which can enrich global culture.


The second session of the award deals with the topic “publishing Arabic books – opportunities and challenges” – which is held on the third day of the exhibition, and is organized in cooperation with the (Litprom Cultural Foundation) of the Frankfurt Book Fair – the reasons that hinder the entry of works of Arabic literature to Western markets, and what are the titles and topics of interest to readers. How can we support the dissemination of Arabic literature abroad? Conversely, the session will review books by non-Arab authors that are qualified with their knowledge topics and interesting titles to gain the attention of Arab readers.

Third session

The third session of the award will discuss the topic “Children’s Book: Between Simplifying Narrative and Complicating the Idea”, which will be held in cooperation with the (Litprom Cultural Foundation) on October 22 at 3 pm UAE time, the great importance of developing the skills of specialists in writing literary works for children, where the speakers will review several axes ; These include the challenges of writing, translating and publishing children’s literature, the type of literature that is suitable for children, and what form it should take in terms of linguistic and narrative terms, and the relationship between text and image.
