Former Minister Ashraf Rifi called on Prime Minister Najib Mikati to resign.
Major General Ashraf Rifi addressed President Najib Mikati by saying: “We are honest that it will not be a vehicle for the state to pass through his leadership of the government the plan to eliminate institutions, foremost of which is the judiciary.”
“The coexistence between the state and Iran’s armed organization is an illusion that has been tried and has led to more erosion of state institutions,” he said in a statement.
He addressed Mikati, saying: “Mr. President, resigning now is better than accepting the head of a government that the state uses as a front to implement the agenda of destruction,” adding: “You buried your government in Tayouneh, so get out of it alive to preserve what is left, if anything remains.”
Rifi continued in his statement: “You called your government ‘Together to the Rescue’, and you promised the people rescue, reform and justice… In return for your safety, there is no reform, no rescue, and no justice.”
