The families of the victims of the port and the committees of the families of the martyrs: Hoteit’s position does not represent them and does not represent us at all

The Association of Families of Victims of the Beirut Port Explosion and the Group of Committees for the Families of Martyrs, Victims and Wounded issued the following statement:

“We, the families of more than two hundred martyrs and victims, thousands of injured and hundreds of thousands of those affected, placed our trust in the judicial investigator, Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, including Mr. Ibrahim Hoteit, whose speech was always directed in this direction. It seems that new circumstances led him to issue his last surprising statement in the name of The families of the victims, knowing that this position does not represent them or us at all.
We, the families and families of the victims as well as the wounded, are still steadfast on our previous positions regarding the trust we placed in Judge Al-Bitar to take over the investigation of the case. We affirm here that our cause is higher and higher than its involvement in political, sectarian and authoritarian quarrels. We reiterate the need for all wanted persons to be brought to justice before the investigation.
We renew the promise that the blood of our family, children, brothers and wounded will not be in vain, and we will take all steps aimed at revealing the truth and achieving justice, standing as an impenetrable barrier against any interference in the work of the judiciary.
