The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said that Egypt’s production of grain reached 21.9 million tons in 2019/2020, compared to 21.8 million tons in 2018/2019, an increase of 0.5%.

The agency indicated in a statement today, Saturday, that the rate of increase is due to the increase in the production of the wheat crop.

The agency issues a statement on the occasion of the World Food Day, which the world celebrates on October 16 of each year, the day corresponding to the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization “FAO” in 1945 and headquartered in Rome, Italy. This year’s celebration is under the slogan “Safe Food for a Healthy Tomorrow”.

World Food Day aims to reach food safety and inspire action in order to help prevent, detect and manage risks from unhealthy foods and contribute to food security and human health.

According to the statement, wheat production amounted to 9.1 million tons in 2019/2020, compared to 8.6 million tons in 2018/2019, an increase of 6.2%.

The statement attributed the reason for the increase to the increase in the area planted of wheat in 1209/2020 by 5.8%, in addition to the increase in the productivity of acre of wheat during this year.

Egypt’s production of rice decreased to 4.4 million tons in 2019/2020, compared to 4.8 million tons in 2018/2019, a decline of 7.6%.

This decrease is due to the decrease in the area planted with rice during this year, according to the statement.
