DUBAI, 16th October / WAM / The UAE signed a joint letter of intent comprising the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, the Emirates Nature Society, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations “FAO”, consolidating its efforts towards adopting healthy diets from sustainable food systems. For the benefit of community members and efforts to preserve the environment and the national economy.
The letter of intent was signed as part of the celebration of World Food Day, which was held today at Expo 2020 Dubai, in the presence of Her Excellency Maryam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Muhairi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, and Laila Mustafa Abdul Latif, Director-General of the Emirates Nature Society, and Abdul Hakim Al Waer, Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa Region.
Her Excellency Maryam Al Muhairi said, “Improving nutritional systems is one of the most important pillars of the national strategy for food security in the UAE, and plays a vital role in strengthening the entire food system in the country. It also has a significant impact on community development and health promotion, and many economic benefits that cannot be achieved.” The interest in healthy diets derived from sustainable food systems is also reflected in the UAE’s efforts in the field of environmental preservation as a result of the interest in sustainable and healthy food production patterns.The letter of intent that we sign today represents a practical step towards cooperation in order to reach an integrated model of nutrition, which is what we are working on. to strengthen it in partnership with the various stakeholders.
For his part, Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand said: “The letter of intent will enable us to study all the opportunities that support our endeavors to enhance the health of the community through proper and healthy nutrition, which is a solid basis for protecting the community from various diseases that have emerged as a result of unhealthy eating patterns. The letters of intent include understanding current barriers and drivers to adopting healthy and sustainable diets, creating awareness and ensuring the target audience understands the importance of healthy and sustainable diets, identifying areas for change through community outreach, education and awareness, and encouraging measurable positive behavior change. .
