Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined the importance of the ceasefire regime in force in the disputed Karabakh region between Azerbaijan and Armenia, praising the role of Russian peacekeeping forces in supporting the truce there.

Commenting on the statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who praised the efforts of the Russian peacekeeping forces deployed in the conflict zone, Putin said, during his participation today, Friday in the summit of leaders of the CIS countries, he said: “This once again confirms the wisdom of Russian proverbs, including “A bad peace is better than a good war,” “The good in any dispute is reconciliation,” and others.

Putin pointed out that the Russian peacekeeping forces guarantee the validity of the agreed-upon truce in Karabakh, help deliver humanitarian aid, remove mines, rebuild basic infrastructure, and provide medical support to citizens on both sides of the line of contact, not to mention their contribution to the return of more than 52,000 displaced people. to their homes.

The Russian President stressed that the main role of the CIS lies in creating conditions for peaceful cooperation among its members for its prosperity and development and raising the level of well-being of citizens.

These statements of President Putin came against the backdrop of a new round of increasing tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh, where the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides accuse each other of violating the armistice.
