The Local Organizing Committee of the Abu Dhabi World Aquatics Festival, which will be held from December 16 to 21, at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, reviewed the preparations for the global event, during an official visit to the headquarters of the International Swimming Federation in the Swiss city of Lausanne.
The delegation of the local committee included the Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Aref Al-Awani, the head of the Swimming Federation, Sultan Al-Samahi, the Acting Executive Director of the Events Sector in the Council, Suhail Al-Arifi, and the festival director Abdullah Al-Wahaibi. The visit also witnessed the presence of members of the Supreme Committee of the International Swimming Federation, including Brent Nweiki, FINA Executive Director, and Taha El Koshary, member of the FINA Executive Office. During the visit, a new memorandum of understanding was signed with the FINA, under which Abu Dhabi will organize the World Open Water Championships and the World Diving Championships.
In an interview with “Emirates Today”, Al-Samahi praised the great cooperation that is taking place between the International Federation and the Abu Dhabi Council, pointing to the great role played by the Council in supporting the sport of swimming, and in building a large base of swimmers, which will benefit the game and the national teams in the near future.
