Kenya’s athletics federation announced on Wednesday that 25-year-old Kenyan runner Agnes Gibet Terup, who won two bronzes at the World Championships in Athletics, has been found dead at her home, in an alleged murder.
The union and local media reports added that Terup was found at her home in Iten, and she had stab wounds. “We are still working to reveal more details about her death,” the Kenya Federation added.
“Kenya has lost a jewel that was one of the rapidly rising giants of athletics at the international level, through its impressive performance on the track,” the federation added.
Terupp took bronze in the 10,000m at both the 2017 and 2019 World Championships, and finished fourth in the 5,000m at this year’s Tokyo Olympics.
