Finnish Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas will be on pole position in the Turkish Grand Prix, the sixteenth stage of the Formula One World Championship, after finishing second in official practice, because his British teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who scored the fastest time, will start from eleventh place after being punished by returning 10 places. Because of a change in violation of the laws in the engine of his car.

The Mercedes team used a fourth piece on the engine to reduce the risk of Hamilton suffering a failure during the race at the “Istanbul Park” circuit, knowing that the laws allow only three. The laws allow a limited number of changes to single-seater cars per season, and any change beyond a certain number is automatically penalized.

Hamilton was the leader in the general classification and the world champion 7 times, and broke the record for the fastest lap on the Turkish circuit by setting the best time on Saturday.

On the other hand, Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Hamilton’s main rival for the world title, will start from second place.

“It’s great to be back racing in Turkey. It was great for me and my team last year,” Hamilton said, referring to his crowning world champion and equaling the record number of titles he shares with German legend Michael Schumacher (7 each).

And he talked about the track, saying, “It is not easy to overtake it, and therefore I think, things will be difficult in a race for tomorrow, except for a long area that we can take advantage of.”

As for Verstappen, “Things were a little complicated in the weather. But we managed to turn things around. We’ll have to wait for the weather at night to see how competitive we are during the race. It’s a circuit that uses a lot of tires but is fun on the whole.”

On the other hand, Bottas said, “It’s a great result for the team in general. My focus will be on my race tomorrow and trying to maintain a good rhythm.”
