Yesterday, Ali Majid, the Saudi national team weightlifter, grabbed two medals for Saudi Arabia in the World Weightlifting Championship for Youth U-17, which is organized by the Saudi Federation for the Game in Jeddah.
Majid won the silver medal in the snatching competitions of 55 kg, by lifting 100 kg, and the bronze in the group with 215 points, on the second day of the tournament. In the 61 kg category for the second group, the Greek Kostanios Lamprides won first place, after lifting 101 kg in the snatch and 130 kg in the net. The American Bolvern Anthony won the second place, and the Saudi Jassem Al-Zuri came in third. In the general weight classification, Thailand’s Batsovong Suk took first place and the gold medal with 223 points, and Turkey’s Ertugrul Segin came in second, Ali Majid third, and his colleague Muhammad Al-Marzouq fourth. Abdulaziz Al-Enezi, CEO of the Saudi Olympic Committee, and Muhammad Al-Qarnas, Director General of the Islamic Solidarity Union, crowned the first places in the tournament.
For its part, the championship competitions continue today with four weights, starting with the 67-kg weight category for the second group, and the 49-kg women’s competition, in which Zikra Kharmi, the Saudi weightlifter, and the 67-kg weight category for the first group participate, and the third day’s competitions will conclude with the women’s 55-kg competition.
