The Emirates Group Security Department signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to provide educational and training programs, and to cooperate in capacity building by providing diploma programs offered by the group in partnership with the Australian Edith Cowan University, which is recognized by ICAO. ».

The Emirates Group said in a statement yesterday that the partnership between the two sides will begin with the Diploma in Ground Handling, and expand in the future to include other ICAO-accredited programs.

Aviation professionals who complete the Ground Handling Diploma Program earn a university diploma recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airlines and the Group, with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, during the International Conference on Civil Aviation Security 2021 in Dubai.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said, “The Security Department of the (Emirates Group) is committed to providing educational programs that meet the highest international standards,” noting that “the new partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization will provide a platform for diploma programs to be evaluated according to frameworks.” internationally accredited, which helps enhance capabilities in the aviation industry in the UAE.”

For his part, Salazar said, “The new agreement with the Emirates Group is an excellent example of innovative approaches to capacity building that ICAO is exploring and implementing in partnership with various relevant authorities.”

In turn, the Senior Vice President of the Security Department at the Emirates Group, Dr. Abdullah Al-Hashemi, said, “The partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization provides a great added value for aviation security workers, whose benefit will not be limited to obtaining a first-class education from the diploma program only. But they will have an additional incentive to get accreditation from ICAO as well.”

Ground Handling Diploma

Offered by the Emirates Group Security Department in partnership with Edith Cowan University, the Ground Handling Diploma Program offers topics focusing on ground handling operations and management, contemporary aviation issues, aviation industry protection, as well as aviation logistics and passenger handling services.

The program also includes the basics of ground handling, baggage, loading, security, loading meals, labor and equipment, in addition to developing practical management skills.
