Elaf from Beirut: In recent months, a link has been observed between coronavirus vaccines that rely on messenger RNA technology (mRNA) and some heart infections, but a new study considered that this constitutes “very rare cases,” according to the “Times of Israel” website.
An Israeli study conducted by Clalit, Israel’s largest healthcare provider, with Beilinson Medical Center, found that the risk of developing myocarditis and endocarditis was “very low”.
The study relied on data on 2.5 million Israelis who had been vaccinated, and 94 percent of them received two doses of the vaccine.
It found that this type of infection occurred in 54 people (51 men and three women), or an average of 2.13 out of every 100,000 people who received the vaccine. Of these, 98 percent of cases were mild, 76 percent were moderate, and 22 percent were without any damage to heart function.
The study found that 1 in 2.5 million people had a serious condition that required hospitalization, and then recovered.
Carditis was observed in younger males after the second dose, as the study showed that 69 percent of cases were infected after the second dose, mostly in males and in the age group 16-29 years.
In turn, Ran Kornovsky, a researcher at the Beilinson Center, confirmed that this case is “relatively rare”, describing the results of the study as “important.”
Cases of infection are rare
At the beginning of October, Canadian health officials said that there was data indicating that relatively rare cases of heart infection were relatively higher in people vaccinated with Moderna’s anti-corona vaccine, compared to people vaccinated with Pfizer Biontech vaccines.
A Public Health Agency of Canada statement said that the majority of those infected had relatively mild symptoms and recovered quickly.
The statement added that it was found that the risk of heart complications, including heart inflammation, increased significantly after infection with corona.
Benefits of vaccination for prevention
In contrast, regulators in the United States, the European Union and the World Health Organization stress that the benefits of vaccination to prevent corona still outweigh the risks.
About 37 percent of Israel’s population of 9.4 million received a third booster dose. The number of Covid-19 patients who were transferred to hospitals in serious cases has decreased in the past days, and the number of confirmed daily injuries has decreased to less than four thousand after exceeding ten thousand, last September.
