The exchange rate of the US dollar against the Lebanese pound witnessed a large and unexpected jump in the informal market at the beginning of trading today, Thursday, as it reached 18,600 pounds to the dollar, its highest level since the formation of the new government on the tenth of last month.
The exchange rate of the dollar had reached in the market yesterday to 18 thousand pounds to the dollar at the end of trading yesterday, while it decreased on the official platform of the Central Bank of Lebanon “exchange to reach 15100 pounds per dollar, according to the exchange rates of operations carried out by banks and exchange institutions on the platform. The trading volume on the exchange platform for today amounted to two million and four hundred thousand US dollars.
Yesterday, the exchange rate averaged 17,600 pounds to the dollar, while the exchange rate on the official platform was 15,500 pounds to the dollar.
This comes at a time when most gas stations closed their doors for the second day in a row, as the weekly table of fuel prices was not issued, pending the new pricing according to the dollar exchange rate in the market and the official platform, in light of the lifting of the bulk of fuel subsidies amid expectations of a new rise in the price of fuel.
The exchange rate of the dollar in banks remains fixed at 1507 pounds per dollar and 3900 pounds for dollar deposit holders.
