Militants of the Allied Democratic Forces killed eight civilians in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a senior Red Cross official announced on Saturday, in a new episode of similar attacks.
ADF rebels attacked the outskirts of the town of Komanda in Ituri province, David Besa, the Red Cross official in the Irumu region, confirmed. The bodies of eight civilians were found, on Saturday, and taken by the army to Komanda Hospital before burial.
The attackers burned about ten houses, and kidnapped a number of people. Army spokesman Jules Ngongo pointed the finger at the militia and its ally, the National Front for Congolese Integration.
In the past weeks, Komanda was subjected to several terrorist attacks, which left a number of dead and victims. Since last May, the government has imposed a blockade on North Kivu and Ituri provinces, and the civilian authorities have been replaced by elements of the army and police to combat armed groups.
