Rennes blew up a big surprise and cut off the winning streak of Paris Saint-Germain, as it beat it 2-0 on Sunday in the ninth stage of the French Football League.
Gaitan Laborde opened the scoring for Rennes in the last minute of the first half, then his colleague Flavien Tate added the team’s second goal in the first minute of the second half, and the referee canceled a goal for French star Kylian Mbappe of Saint-Germain in the 68th minute for offside.
Rennes won today’s match despite the participation of Saint-Germain’s attacking force, as Kylian Mbappe played against Neymar, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria.
Rennes raised his score to 12 points, jumping from the fourteenth place to the seventh place in the league table, where the victory was the third for the team this season, compared to three defeats and three draws.
As for Paris Saint-Germain, it was defeated after eight consecutive victories, to freeze its tally at 24 points in the lead, six points ahead of second-placed Lens, who beat Reims 2-0 in the opening stage competitions on Friday evening.
