Al-Khalil met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Lebanon, Ralph Tarraf, on a congratulatory visit, and the meeting discussed bilateral relations.
After the meeting, Tarraf said:
“I was pleased with the first meeting with the Minister of Finance. It was a fruitful meeting where we discussed and compared our aspirations on how to move Lebanon forward and I was encouraged to see the agreement among us on priorities to help Lebanon overcome the economic crisis, and that talks with the International Monetary Fund are an urgent need that needs to be well prepared, and that the priorities of The government must be specific, and the government needs to hold talks with a clear strategic direction on issues that are not easy to address.
It is good to note that the Lebanese government is now in a position to make progress on these critical issues after a long period of stalemate. I’ve also noticed that the Minister focuses primarily on what we might call a people’s needs approach that puts human capital, human development issues and poverty at the center of policy considerations. We hope the government can follow up on all these issues and we are here to support them.”
Minister Al-Khalil met with the Egyptian ambassador to Lebanon, Yasser Alawi, who expressed the Arab Republic of Egypt’s continuous support for Lebanon.
Al-Khalil held a meeting with a delegation from the Trade Union Coordination Committee headed by Nazih Jabawi, and they discussed the issue of teachers’ status and how students can return to school.
