Unemployed people aged 45 and over are expected to end their entitlement to unemployment benefits in mid-October. If the unemployed do not find work by then they will be left without any source of income or will have to rely on other social benefits. Those aged 67 and over who have worked and been sent to the Knesset will cease to receive the special “adjustment grants”

According to Social Security, a minority of the unemployed will be entitled to an income support pension.

If those unemployed persons aged 45 and over do not find work in the near future, they will be left without income from work, without unemployment benefits or guaranteed income.

For those aged 45 and over, who were not entitled to unemployment benefits under the ordinary law, eligibility was extended at the beginning of last July to 50% of the pre-Corona routine.

They are entitled to a maximum of 175 days of unemployment according to the law, and have received an extension of up to 88 days, which they can use until the end of 2021. Since the calculation is made by working days, their entitlement will end by mid-October.

The rest, aged 45 and under, have not been receiving unemployment benefits since June 30, and about 19,000 people aged 67 and over who worked and were sent to the IDF will stop receiving the special “adjustment grants” as early as Thursday this week.

The Director General of the National Insurance Institute, Meir Spiegler, said that by the end of October, most of those eligible will have completed their eligibility:

“In August, 13.6 thousand unemployed people aged 45 and over completed their eligibility, in September 8.2 thousand unemployed will complete their eligibility, during October 70,000 will qualify – the critical mass they will receive the last ration of unemployment benefits on 12 November.

There is another order of magnitude of about 10,000 unemployed who will be eligible until March 22. “
