The technical staff of the Egyptian national team, led by the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, decided to grant the leadership badge of the “Pharaohs” to Mohamed Salah, the English star of Liverpool, during the coming period in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, after announcing the final list of the Pharaohs.
This comes despite the fact that Pyramids player Ahmed Fathy was called to the Egyptian national team’s list for the two matches of Libya in the World Cup qualifiers.
And the Portuguese “Queiroz” had stated that Mohamed Salah, the star of the English team, Liverpool, is the leader of the “Pharaohs” during the current stage, to confirm Diaa El-Sayed on the same information.
A crisis had erupted between the former technical staff of the Egyptian national team, led by Hossam El-Badry, and Ahmed Fathy, over not giving him the captaincy of the Egyptian team, as he is the oldest player of the current generation of the Egyptian team.
The technical staff of the Egyptian national football team, led by “Keirosh”, announced the final list of the names of the players selected to join the team’s camp, which starts tomorrow, in preparation for the meeting with the Libyan team in the World Cup qualifiers.
“Querush”, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Mohamed Sherif, excluded Al-Ahly players from the ranks of the Egyptian team.
The list of Egypt’s national team included 24 players:
Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shennawy, Mohamed Abu Jabal, Mohamed Bassam and Mohamed Sobhi.
Defense lines: Akram Tawfiq, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Hegazy, Baher Al-Mohammadi, Mahmoud Hamdi “Al Wensh”, Yasser Ibrahim, Ahmed Abu Al-Fotouh and Ayman Ashraf.
Midfield: Mohamed Elneny, Amr Al-Sulayya, Tariq Hamed and Hamdi Fathi.
Attacking midfield: Ahmed Sayed “Zizou”, Mohamed Salah, Abdullah Al-Saeed, Ibrahim Adel, Ramadan Sobhi and Omar Marmoush.
Today, Friday, the Portuguese “Queiroz” and his assistant staff held a meeting at the residence hotel to resolve the final list of players and determine those excluded from the list, before the camp resumes tomorrow, Saturday.
Yesterday, Thursday, the Egyptian team defeated Liberia 2-0 in an international friendly match, as part of the two teams’ preparations to resume the African qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The Egyptian team succeeded in achieving its first victory under the leadership of its new coach, Carlos Queiroz, who was appointed to succeed Hossam El-Badri, who was recently sacked.
Mohamed Sherif scored the first goal for the Egyptian team in the 58th minute, before adding the second goal in the 67th minute.
The Egyptian team is preparing to face its Libyan counterpart in the third and fourth rounds of the sixth group of African qualifiers for the World Cup, where they will play on the eighth of next October in Egypt, while the second match will be held in Libya on the 11th of the same month.
Egypt ranks second in the group with four points, two points behind Libya, the group leader, while Gabon is third with one point, and Angola is at the bottom of the standings without a balance of points.
