The technical staff of the Egyptian national team, led by Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, announced the list of the Pharaohs for the two upcoming matches against Libya in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Egyptian national team camp begins (Saturday) in preparation for two matches against Libya in the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, on October 8 and 11.
The list of Egypt’s national team announced by Queiroz included 24 players, and witnessed several controversial surprises, the first of which was the selection of 4 goalkeepers, Muhammad Al-Shennawi, Muhammad Abu Jabal, Muhammad Bassam and Muhammad Sobhi.
While the list of defenders included Akram Tawfiq, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Hegazy, Baher Al-Mohammadi, Mahmoud Hamdi “Al Wensh”, Yasser Ibrahim Ahmed Abu Al-Fath and Ayman Ashraf.
In the middle, the list included Muhammad Al-Nani, Amr Al-Suliya, Tariq Hamed, Hamdi Fathi, Ahmed Sayed “Zizou”, Muhammad Salah, Abdullah Al-Saeed, Ibrahim Adel, Ramadan Sobhi, Omar Marmoush, and in the attack, Ahmed Hassan “Koka” and Mustafa Mohamed.
Carlos Queiroz surprises in the Egyptian national team
The technical staff of the Egyptian national team, led by Carlos Queiroz, excluded 11 players from the current camp. The list of those excluded also included several surprises, led by the exclusion of Mohamed Sharif, the top scorer in the Egyptian League last season, and the owner of the two goals of defeating Liberia in a friendly match in the first matches of the Portuguese coach with the Pharaohs.
The exclusion of Al-Ahly midfielder Mohamed Magdy Qafsha also represented one of Carlos Queiroz’s surprises, after the player’s good performance in Al-Ahly matches last season.
The list of those excluded also included Muhannad Lashin, Ahmed Samir, Ahmed Tawfiq, Ali Gabr, Mustafa Fathi and Mohamed Hamdi, along with the three professionals, Karim Hafez, Wissam Morsi, and Ahmed Yasser Rayan.
The summoning of veteran Pyramids defender Ahmed Fathi after a while away from the Egyptian national team and Yasser Ibrahim, Al-Ahly defender, was one of the surprises of Carols Queiroz’s list for Libya’s two fateful places in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
It is noteworthy that Libya is at the top of Group F of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with 6, while Egypt has 4 points in second place, and Gabon is in third place with one point, and Angola is at the bottom of the group without a score of points.
The Egyptian team had an easy victory (Friday) over Liberia with two goals without a response, scored by Mohamed Sherif in the friendly match that was held between them at the Burj Al Arab Stadium in Alexandria in preparation for the two crucial matches.
