Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Egyptian national team, decided to exclude Mohamed Sherif and Mohamed Magdy Afsha, the Al-Ahly club duo, from the Pharaohs camp during the month of October.
Queiroz had summoned 7 players from Al-Ahly in his provisional list, which witnessed the presence of Mohamed El-Shennawy, Akram Tawfiq, Ayman Ashraf, Hamdi Fathi, Amr Al-Sulayya, Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Mohamed Sharif, before the previous duo excluded them.
And the official page of the Football Association published on the social networking sites Twitter and Facebook the list of the team that will compete in the next two matches in Libya, and I did not have the names of Afsha and Sharif.
Portuguese coach Queiroz’s decision sparked controversy in the sports community, given the technical importance of Afsha and Sharif’s duo with the national team in the last stage.
Afsha scored the only goal of the national team against Angola in the first round of the World Cup qualifiers, while Mohamed Sherif starred in the first friendly match of Queiroz with the Pharaohs, and managed to score the two goals of the Pharaohs against Liberia on Thursday.
The technical staff of the national team also decided to exclude other names from the initial list, namely: Ali Gabr, Ahmed Tawfiq, the Pyramids duo, Mostafa Fathi, Zamalek player, Muhannad Lashin, and Ahmed Samir, the two Vanguards of the Army.
The national team will face its Libyan counterpart twice, the first will be on October 8 at the Army Stadium in Borg Al Arab, and the second in Tripoli on the 11th of the same month, in the third and fourth rounds of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup Qatar.
