Cairo – Mubasher: Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy, the Egyptian Minister of Local Development, directed the governorates to start implementing winter dates for opening and closing shops, restaurants, cafes, malls, workshops and crafts.
Shaarawy said, in a statement issued today, Friday, that this comes in accordance with Article 6 of the decision of the Minister of Local Development (Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Public Stores Licensing) No. 456 of 2020, after the end of the summer dates yesterday, Thursday, September 30th.
The Minister of Local Development stated that the decision for winter appointments includes that the opening hours of shops and commercial malls, except for restaurants and cafes, are daily from seven in the morning and close at ten in the evening, provided that the timing is increased on Thursday and Friday and on holidays and official state holidays to close at eleven in the evening .
It is scheduled that the opening hours of restaurants, cafes and bazaars, including those in commercial malls, will be daily from five o’clock in the morning and close at twelve midnight, provided that the timing is increased on Thursday and Friday and on holidays and official state holidays to close at one o’clock in the morning.
The minister hinted at the continuation of the takeaway service and home delivery service for restaurants and cafes around the clock (24 hours).
The ministerial decision also includes that the opening hours of all workshops and crafts shops within the residential block are daily from eight in the morning and close at six in the evening, except for the workshops on roads and gas stations, as well as the workshops related to urgent services to the citizen, for which a decision is issued by the Minister of Local Development (Head of The Higher Committee for Licensing Public Stores.
The opening and closing dates of workshops and craft shops within the residential block may be modified if there is a need for this, by a decision of the Minister of Local Development (chairman of the Higher Committee for Licensing Public Stores) based on the proposal of the competent minister or governor after submission to the Higher Committee for Licensing Public Stores.
Grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries and ovens are excluded from the dates, taking into account the night activities of some stores, such as fruit and vegetable stores, poultry stores, wholesale markets and pharmacies.
The Minister of Local Development called on the executive bodies in the governorates to implement the decision of winter dates to close and open shops and restaurants with firmness and continuous coordination with the security directorates and alert the heads of centers, cities and neighborhoods to activate follow-up committees in each center and city to carry out sudden campaigns on all shops to ensure that their owners adhere to the appointments and take action Legal action against violators.
Sharawi explained that the Ministry’s operations room will coordinate with the governorates’ operations rooms to continuously follow up on the implementation of winter appointments, as stated in the ministerial decision to preserve the safety and health of citizens, especially in light of the state’s efforts to limit the spread of the new Corona virus.
He appealed to the owners of shops, restaurants, workshops, cafes and craft businesses to abide by the opening and closing dates of new shops so that the penalties prescribed by law are not applied to violators of the decision.
