A court in the Italian city of Imperia on Thursday handed down 15 convictions against civil servants involved in a mass absenteeism case, Il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper reported.

The convicts received prison terms ranging from eight months to three and a half years, according to the newspaper.

Investigations that began since 2015 revealed a large network of city officials who were absent from work, as 43 people were investigated, 35 of whom were placed under house arrest.

In 2020, 10 people were acquitted on charges of fraud, harming the state, and violating the civil service law, including a local municipal police officer who was captured by CCTV as he went to work in shorts and slippers.
