Emirates, the main partner and official carrier of Expo 2020 Dubai, has unveiled the A380 in a new and full blue livery for Expo 2020 to continue highlighting the international event around the world.
The new livery, which differs from the traditional white and gold stickers, covers the entire airframe from the front to the tail, and is characterized by its deep blue color and huge graphics in bright green, orange, pink, purple and red colors. The inscriptions “Dubai Expo” and “Be Part of the Magic” appear on both sides of the fuselage. “Dubai Expo” was written on the engine covers and the opening and closing months were “October-March”.
In addition, on both sides of the fuselage, the brave girl made famous in the Emirates advertisement is shown standing on top of the Burj Khalifa inviting to visit the event, carrying a plaque that reads: “See you there” and “Dubai Expo Oct-Mar 2022.”
The Emirates name in English, Emirates, which appears in red letters on the belly of all Emirates aircraft while in flight, has been replaced by Dubai Expo in orange symbolizing opportunities, one of the Expo themes, raising awareness of the event across the network covered by the giant aircraft over the next six months.
Designed, executed and installed by Emirates technicians, the cladding is not just a sticker, but a complete painting project for the aircraft, which is the largest and first of its kind for Emirates Airlines to date. The creation of the livery required great planning and skill to ensure perfect design and execution.
The aircraft’s original paint has been completely removed and 11 colors have been accurately and uniformly coated. The Emirates team used electrostatic spraying machines and conventional machines to install the various colors using more than 2,500 square meters of cladding materials. All materials were in-house produced in the UV and graphic printer’s workshop, and took many hours to manufacture and implement. The Emirates Appearance Center teams skillfully worked through the challenges of transforming the designs into a 3D aircraft, as well as coordinating the different colors and bringing out the intricate background shades in this unique livery.
The stickers were then placed on the engine hoods as well as the image of the girl holding the welcome sign at the front of the plane. The process of covering the airframe and placing the stickers took 16 days and 4,379 man-hours.
Three Emirates A380s will appear dressed in Expo 2020 Dubai, to shed light on the story of the Expo, and highlight the three themes of one of the largest global events taking place since the start of the pandemic. The three distinctive blue Expo planes add to the 40 aircraft in the Emirates fleet bearing the Expo 2020 Dubai logo, and together they have flown to more than 130 destinations across the Emirates network since 2018.
One of the Emirates aircraft, dressed in the new Expo 2020 Dubai, will serve the airline’s flight to Los Angeles tomorrow (Wednesday, September 29).
