The USNS Choctaw County, an express transport vessel, arrived in Lebanon yesterday for a previously scheduled visit. This historic visit is the first by a US Navy ship to a Lebanese naval base, and it highlights the strong partnership between the United States and the Lebanese Army.
This visit, at the US Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), is part of the mission of this command, which aims to build the capacity of the Lebanese Navy to maintain regional security and stability and enhance disaster response capabilities, including the exchange of specialized experts between the Lebanese Navy and the crew of the Naval Forces Central Command. American personnel working on disaster response, public health, mine action, diving medicine, and construction capabilities.
In addition, this visit will include a conference on partnership building with international participants to discuss ways to enhance the ability of the Lebanese Navy to work in coordination with foreign naval forces.
